Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why should we choose Hamswell House?
A. For many, a marquee in the garden of a beautiful country house is the first choice for a romantic wedding reception. At Hamswell House, you have not only the fabulous walled gardens and the backdrop of a historic manor house but breathtaking views and a convenient location near Bath and Bristol.

Q. Can we hold the marriage service at Hamswell?
A. Yes. The Orangery is licensed for civil ceremonies and marriages. It can seat 40. The rest of the guests can watch the ceremony from just outside.

Q. Will I have exclusive use of the venue for the day?
A. Yes. Hamswell House is a private estate. Unlike some other venues, you will not be sharing your special day with other brides, hotel guests or golfers.

Q.Who will do the catering?
A. We have a shortlist of four excellent caterers. Select whichever one you like. If for any reason none of them can meet your requirements, you can use a caterer not on the list for an additional charge.

Q. Can I bring my own wine and champagne?
A. Yes. You can bring your own wine and champagne if you wish. We do not charge corkage. This is in contrast with many hotels and commercial venues where the mark up on the wines and champagnes can be eye watering. Alternatively, the caterers can supply the wines and champagne for you.

Q. How many guests can be accommodated in a marquee?
A. A marquee can be personalised to suit your individual requirements from 40 to 240.

Q. What about accommodation?
A. The surrounding area is full of excellent hotels and B&Bs in all price ranges. We can provide a list. We do not provide accommodation in the house.

Q. What if we only want a small wedding?
A. We have special packages for that too, offering a ceremony in the orangery and a drinks reception for up to 40 guests.

Q. What does it cost?
A. The venue charges are set out in the wedding brochure, which you can view and download from this site.
